On Tuesday we all met to start a video conference together via Microsoft Teams. We talked a lot with each other. How we are doing, what we have planned for the summer etc.  Even though a digital call cannot fully replace a personal meeting, it was very nice to talk to the Spaniards for a one last time. After the video conference we went to the playground to say a few final words for a video which is planned to be included in our final performance. In the next few weeks we will all continue to work to bring the project to the best possible end.

New activities

Sorry we didn’t have new posts on our project but because of the Covid19-Pandemic our schools were closed for some time.

Now they are opened again, but travelling isn’t allowed right now. So sadly we had to postpone our trip to Spain, where our German students would attend the art workshops.

Instead we are working right now in weekly sessions on smaller preparations for our musical, such as improving robots and electronics. We also watched the 1984 movie and talked about the plot.

During the last weeks we also designed a logo for our project and startet to produce the first merchandise product: a T-Shirt!

With the following pictures and videos you can get some impressions of our work. Enjoy!

Robotics in Coburg – day 3

After Mr. Leibing’s greeting, there is a short repetition of yesterday’s work with the Fusion 360 computer program. The teacher then uses a PowerPoint presentation to explain the basics of the two microcontrollers Arduino and Raspberry Pi, their use and important warnings.

The youngsters use various instructions to program the microcontroller.
After the first break, the students try to program the microcontroller so that the brightness forms a smooth transition. In the fifth and sixth hours, the learners worked out how to create and use different programs.

The students are now challenged to program 4 LED lights in 40 minutes so that they react differently in different situations. It should be noted that only one lamp may light up at a time. The winners of this task win a small prize.

In the late afternoon everyone meets again for a dinner organized by the students in the forum of Ernestinum Grammar School.

==============================

Robotics in Coburg – day 2

After Mr. Leibing’s introduction to the 2nd day of our mobility, the basics of 3D printing are explained in a PowerPoint presentation: What can you do with 3D printing? What do you need for this? How does the printing work? The students then go to the physics section with the teachers and take a closer look at a 3D printer and can even print.

After the first break, students model a 3D printing example on the computer with the „Fusion 360“ program. The German students help the Spanish students with the construction. When designing the models, the imagination of the learners is given wings. Students are experimenting with the 3D printing program to equip the future robots for the play.

In the last two hours in the morning, the models are finished. In the afternoon, to get to know the extremely worth seeing cultural city of Cobrug, the city and the Veste Coburg are discovered. Emmy Wank, Arne Olgenmöller and Fabian Gregor lead the tour in English.

============

Was braucht man dafür?

Robotics in Coburg – day 1

Finally the time has come – the first mobility starts at Ernestinum Coburg. Before the first lesson, 13 students from Valencia and the 16 pupils from Ernestinum have arrived in our RoboLab. Tillmann Leibing, Dr. Hüneburg and headmaster Dr. Jakob welcome everybody and underline the importance of the project as an example of European understanding.

In the morning, the guests from Valencia are introduced to the construction of the robots by the German students: learning through teaching in the RoboLab of the Ernestinum! The first attempts with the Lego Mindstorm Kit follow, showing that robots only work if they are properly programmed.

After the first break, it is time to set up the sensors. Gregor Will explains detailed circuit diagrams and gives programming tips. The Spanish students build the sensors on the previously built robots – the working language is English all day long.

In the fifth and sixth lesson, Mr. Leibing’s previous steps are summarized. The young people then research a simplified programming of the sensors so that the robots automatically run along a black line. Our project is picking up speed:

In the meantime, the effort of the assembly of the robots in the morning has given way to the joy of the self-driving and specially programmed robots.

We look forward to Day 2 – then it means: 3D printing in the morning and guided tour in the afternoon.

=================

Gregor Will erklärt ausführlich Schaltpläne und gibt Programmiertipps.

Kick-Off! at Ernestinum

Robots will soon roll onto the stage!

Anyone who thinks that the Christmas bazaar at Ernestinum Grammar School only offers homemade cakes and cookies is wrong. The technology itself will be self-made and used in the musical about robotics in the forthcoming two years: „1984 – Connecting Arts and Technology“ is the title of a theater performance that connects technology and art, Coburg and Valencia with each other.

„The Christmas bazaar is a great opportunity to start the project with a starting shot,“ says Tillmann Leibing, head of the robotics group at Ernes. In addition to cookies, waffles and hot chocolate, the participants listen to the project presentation, which officially opens the project as a kick-off.

Several Spanish teachers from our partner school speak up via video message. There is Sonia Casquete y Alemany, the headmistress of Les Carolines, but also Rafa Santibanez, the head of the musical group in Valencia or Araceli Sempere, who is in charge of the robotics class in Spain, and of course Sergi Valdés, who gives the whole project the right sound as a music teacher. The message from Valencia is clear: now things really get going: Constructing, rehearsing, writing and practicing are now taking place to ensure that our intercultural musical will be a great success on the stages of Valencia and Coburg.
